ABOUT LAMPE BERGER
History of Lampe Berger
It all began in the dispensary of a Parisian pharmacist, Maurice Berger, in France in 1898. In trying to find a process to purify the air, he discovered the beneficial effect of the catalytic combustion of a specific product, ozoalcohol, and he filed the patent for a "new lamp system for purifying the air". Thus the Lampe Berger was born, along with its unique and constantly improved process that has proven its efficiency over time.
Although initially it was used only by the medical world for its antibacterial powers, it caught the interest of some of the greatest designers of the time: Lalique, Galle, the Daum crystal glass works and Baccarat. The Lampe Berger became a feature at the salons of the Belle Epoque, and developed a new function, fragrancing, that made it even more popular. Today, whether in simple styles and materials, or dressed up by the great contemporary designers, the Lampe Berger is still equally as famous and its secret is still passed down from generation to generation.

How do I use the Lampe Berger?
It really is simple!
· Fill the Lampe Berger to a maximum of 2/3 with the Home Fragrance.
· Check that the burner is correctly inserted and positioned on the base.
· Once lit, leave the flame to burn for 2 minutes or until it reduces visibly, before blowing it out.
· Put the stopper back on the burner between uses.
Please refer to our How It Works section below for further details.
ABOUT THE LAMPS
I lit my lamp and the flame was a few cm high. Is this normal?
Yes it is. That is why you need to take precaution while the stone is heating. Do not put it close to flammable materials. Once the flame is blown out your lamp does not pose a potential fire risk.
How long do I need to run the lamp?
Usually we suggest 20 to 40 minutes or until you are comfortable with the scent. Running your lamp longer will only increase the strength of fragrance. Your lamp will continue to do its work many hours after you have extinguished it.
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--><!--[endif]-->
How large of an area does the lamp cover?
This depends on the layout and ventilation of the area you want to fragrance and purify. In general, just 20-30 minutes of use is enough to scent a room of 12sqm, and the fragrance will then last about 2 hours.
ABOUT THE WICK/BURNER
How long will the wick/burner last?
A new wick/burner should last 250 lightings or 1 to 2 years with regular use (with usage on average every 2 days).
Do I have to change wicks every time I change fragrances?
Not at all. Just be sure to squeeze out any excess fragrance from the wick before putting it in the new fragrance. Do not rinse your wick burner with water or any other liquid.
Do I need to let it sit 20 minutes before I light it?
If it's the first time use, you need to let it sit 20 minutes but if your stone is wet, you can light it with no problem. Your stone will be pale gray when dry and slightly darker when wet.
ABOUT THE FRAGRANCES
Can I mix fragrances?
No, mixing fragrances can cause chemical reactions with possible formation of substances considered as indoor pollutants, in the liquid or at the instant of diffusion. The variety of the product range means you do not have to do your own mixing. You have a wide variety of seven families’ representative of the best sellers in the market and today's fashions.
How can I change fragrances?
Simply fill the lamp with Neutral and then light the burner for approx 20 minutes in order to clean out the burner before switching to a different home fragrance If, at the end of the 20 minutes, there is still some So Neutral fragrance remaining in the lamp, use it and top up with the chosen Home Fragrance. The fragrance will be slightly watered down by dilution with the So Neutral fragrance.
What does "Neutral" smell like?
Neutral has no scent. Some people just want to purify and take odours out without any fragrance. Neutral can also be used with other Lampe Berger fragrances to make them softer or tone them down. Neutral is a great spare to have since some fragrances can be a little too strong for some people.
How much fragrance should I put in the lamp?
Never fill the lamp more than 2/3 full.
Can I use oil lamp or any other oil?
NO! This can pose a serious fire hazard and can be extremely dangerous. Only Lampe Berger fragrance should be used in the lamps. Please note that Lampe Berger fragrances are alcohol based fragrances, they are not oils.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
My Lampe Berger will not light. Why is this?
- Is there enough fuel in the Lampe Berger? It should be at minimum of 1/3 full to ensure the wick can absorb enough fuel right up to the burner. Never fill the lamp more than 2/3 full.
- How old is the burner? It may need replacing. Refer to ‘How long will the wick/burner last?’ above.
- Have you left the flame lit for more than the recommended 3 or so minutes? This can damage the catalytic properties of the burner. You may need to replace the burner if this is the case.
The burner works and is hot. After few minutes, the open shade becomes cold, indicating that the burner has stopped working. Why and what is the solution?
Firstly, ensure there is sufficient fuel in the lamp. It should be at minimum of 1/3 full to a maximum of 2/3 full to ensure the wick can absorb enough fuel right up to the burner.
If you leave the flame to burn less than 2 minutes, there is a risk that the catalysis did not yet start. Try again, leaving the flame to burn for 2 minutes or until it reduces visibly before blowing it out.
This could also be due to the fact that the burner is overly soaked with the Home Fragrance. To fix this, Take out the wick and the burner and leave it to dry for 3 hours until the wick is completely dry (you may place the wick on a newspaper to avoid making a mess!) Pour the excess fuel back into the fragrance bottle. Replace the wick/burner and leave for at least 20 minutes with the snuffer cap in place to allow the wick to soak up the fuel and then light the burner and leave the flame to burn for 2 minutes and then blow it out.
Alternatively, the wick/burner may need cleaning. The procedure for cleaning the wick/burner is the same as for changing fragrances. Please refer to ‘How can I change fragrances?’ above.
My Lampe Berger smokes when I blow out the flame. Why is this?
· Check that you have left the flame burning for the full 2 minutes (no more than 3 minutes).
· The wick/burner may need to be changed if it has been used for more than 250 lightings or 1 to 2 years with regular use (on average every 2 days)
· If the wick has been left exposed without the snuffer cap in place, then there can be smoke from a build up of dust and residue on the burner, however this should burn off in a few minutes.
· The wick/burner may be dirty and needs cleaning. Refer to above for procedure on how to clean this.
I do not plan on using my Lampe Berger for a long time as I am going on holidays, what should I do?
Remove both the burner and the wick from the lamp in order to prevent to be saturated with Home Fragrance. Keep it in a plastic bag or a cup until the next use and close the Lampe tightly with the stopper. When using the lamp next, put both the burner and the wick in the lamp, let it absorb the Home Fragrance for 20 minutes, making sure it is covered by the stopper, and then light the burner normally.

MORE ABOUT LAMPE BERGER ANTI-BACTERIAL
Can the use of LAMPE BERGER Anti-Bacterial reduce the risks of contamination if there is an influenza pandemic?
The tests made by the Institute of Research of microbiology in September 09 , show that the Anti-Bacterial Lampe Berger, diffused for 30 minutes, kills 93.68% of the swine flu virus ( H1N1) present on surfaces. These results have been observed 2 hours after the diffusion.
What is the advantage of disinfecting interior air?
There is an abundance of numerous germs, moulds and yeasts in our environment and in some cases can pose health risks. Lampe Berger Anti-Bacterial has proven results in destroying micro-organisms in the air.
Total elimination of these is neither necessary nor desirable in the home because exposure to them enables us to maintain our immune system. However, some moulds are responsible for allergies in the human body and therefore the Anti-Bacterial will be able to reduce the effects.
The use of the Lampe Berger Anti-Bacterial can also limit the transmission of certain illnesses by reducing the presence of the micro-organisms responsible for contaminating the air.
How many times a day can I use the LAMPE BERGER Anti-Bacterial?
Once a day if there is a major problem like an influenza pandemic.
Once per week in normal times.
Use of the LAMPE BERGER Anti-Bacterial: 2 minutes lighting and then 30 minutes diffusion.
Does the LAMPE BERGER Anti-Bacterial have an odour?
Yes, there is a characteristic odour rather pronounced, which LAMPE BERGER has not modified in its formula. In this formulation, LAMPE BERGER has sought to preserve the integrity of the disinfectant properties of the red thyme essential oil, and has not sought to produce a Home Fragrance.
Can the LAMPE BERGER Anti-Bacterial be used in a room where there are children?
The classification in accordance with the Hazardous Products Directive does not involve restriction of the use of the Lampe Berger anti-bacterial product in the presence of children. The only restriction applicable is the following: Caution, this treatment must not be carried out by an asthma sufferer or in his/her presence.
Just like the Home Fragrances, the formula contains about 88% by weight of isopropanol, so we must provide a recommendation concerning the risks linked to the use of a product containing alcohol: undesirable effects may be observed in people who are likely to be sensitive to alcohol inhalation such as pregnant women or babies.
THINGS TO AVOID
· Only use LAMPE BERGER Home Fragrances in your Lamp. Our Home Fragrances are exclusively formulated to be diffused by the AIR PUR System 3C® burner. The fineness of their molecules matches the specific porosity of the burner. Use of any other fragrance risks causing damage to the AIR PUR System 3C® burner.
· Similarly, mixtures of Home Fragrances are prohibited because the size of the molecules produced by these mixtures may cause damage to the burner. In addition, the mixture of fragrances may cause uncontrolled chemical reactions with the possible formation of substances considered to be interior pollutants.
· Do not use or add other compounds such as essential oils or body perfumes to the Lampe Berger Home Fragrance.
